The Bilingual Heritage Interpreter will work with a small team of staff to plan and deliver guided tours, research the history of the Old Jail and the surrounding area, archive artifacts, work on the promotion and publicity of various events including theatre and music, perform general office duties, and assist with all other aspects of the operations and administration of the site.
This position is partially funded by Young Canada Works. To be eligible for consideration under this program a candidate must be:
• legally entitled to work in Canada.
• be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
• have finished the school term at the start of employment.
• be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory.
• be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment.
• not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW.
The ideal candidate will be fully bilingual, have a driver’s license, have excellent computer skills, work well independently and in a team situation, be available to work weekends and evenings, and be available to work 7 days per week with 1 or 2 days off (not always on weekends). They must be able to self-motivate for the accomplishment of tasks. Because this position offers multidisciplinary facets, being enrolled in the fields of communication, event organization, corrections, museum studies, criminal law, history, tourism, business or public relations programs can be an asset as will previous work or volunteer experience in a museum or historic site.
