The Spencerville Mill Foundation is creating a summer position for an Exhibit Technician. The successful candidate will be expected to work full-time, 35 hours per week, at the rate of $18 per hour. Project to run for sixteen weeks commencing May 16th 2016 and ending August 28th 2016.

This project will give a student valuable museum experience working with historical documents and artefacts applying them to various exhibit purposes. It will also allow a student to be the first to conduct research on this unique collection and highlight aspects of value for future users. This project will provide an opportunity to engage with a unique collection and requires research, communication, organization and project planning skills, and require professional and competent conduct when dealing with the public and/or museum users.

The ideal candidate for this position is a student working towards a degree in history, social science, journalism, marketing, curatorial or museum studies or other related fields. This student should be familiar with computer use, including word processing and comfortable with use of the Internet, particularly in the areas of social media. Familiarity with historical or museum research, and historical exhibits would be considered assets. Organizational skills, analytical and critical thinking are a must for any candidate wishing to be considered.

In assessing a candidate’s suitability, the following factors will be considered: the candidate’s ability to perform the required duties, previous work record including conduct and performance and education, training and skills. Should these factors be considered equal between two candidates, the candidate with the lesser experience will be selected.
