The Art Museum at the University of Toronto (comprised of the federated Justina M. Barnicke

Gallery and the University of Toronto Art Centre) is seeking an Exhibition Assistant to assist in

the research, maintenance, and coordination of our summer and fall exhibitions. The position

is a 37.5 hour work week, at $15/hour, from May to August.

The ideal candidate for the position of Exhibition Assistant will have a background and

demonstrated knowledge – through education and volunteer or previous employment – in

contemporary and early 20th century Canadian art. They are currently enrolled in postsecondary

studies and are intending to return to school in the fall semester, preferably in the

field of art history or museum studies.

The candidate will bring excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the

ability to work independently and in a team, with an emphasis on critical thinking, information

accuracy and enthusiasm for contemporary Canadian art and history. The candidate will have

proven experience with detailed contemporary art research, and is able to process information

in a variety of formats, use databases, and present findings. Project management experience

is a definite asset as is prior administrative and art handling experience in a gallery or museum
