The Kelowna Museums Society has an exciting opportunity for a student to spend their summer working behind the scenes at a fascinating and fun institution! The Kelowna Museums Society manages and maintains three unique museums: Okanagan Heritage Museum, BC Wine and Orchard Museum, and the Okanagan Military Museum. Our mandate is “to promote a greater interest and awareness of the natural, cultural and military heritages of the Okanagan region and of the tree fruit and wine industries of British Columbia.” Our mission is “to provide the public with educational exhibitions and programs that foster personal participation, stimulate curiosity, and engage the senses with the cultures, histories, and possibilities of the Okanagan region.” Our vision is to inspire a community to be alive with its history – connecting people and place.
The Programming Assistant will help plan, promote and deliver a series of entertaining, interactive and educational programs and tours for locals and tourists. The student will also spend time bringing history ‘alive’ at local parks and beaches, where special events are scheduled. Comfort with public speaking and interacting with the public is essential. Strong communication and research skills are also important attributes. Coursework in history, cultural studies, drama or education is an asset. We are looking for a candidate with enthusiasm and energy!
This position is dependent on funding. Students must be returning to full-time studies for fall 2017 to be eligible. Other eligibility requirements apply.
$14 per hour
