The Lennoxville Youth Center is located in the City of Sherbrooke’s Borough of Lennoxville in the picturesque Eastern Townships. A vibrant city with a population of approximately 167 000 residents (https://www.ville.sherbrooke.qc.ca/fr/services-municipaux/service-de-la-planification-urbaine-et-du-developpement-durable/portrait-de-la-ville/) encompasses an intimate city feel while being only a short drive from lakes, mountains and other country living.
The Borough of Lennoxville is one of the few boroughs/cities in the province that hold bilingual status with the English speaking population over 50%. The heart of Lennoxville is minutes from the beautiful and historically rich Bishop’s University campus, a small liberal arts university. The rich, deep-rooted cultural identity of Lennoxville is evident by just walking down the street. A hub for numerous community organizations, many of whom boast a history of over 30 years, Lennoxville has a tight knit community sector that work together to provide high level services for their clients and the members of the community.
A short15-minute drive will bring you to rolling hills, apple orchards, organic farms and beautiful lakes. The organic diversity paired with the flora and fauna make the Eastern Townships an inspiring place to live for anyone with a green thumb. The region boasts beautiful mountain ranges and an array of hiking and skiing mountains that are perfect for anyone who like to get out and get some fresh air while taking in the breathtaking views.
The Lennoxville Youth Center is a non-profit charitable organization whose primary objective is to meet the needs of young people in our community. Our mission is to encourage these youth to become critical, active and responsible citizens and we facilitate their development by providing a safe, lively and structured environment where they can participate in activities that they themselves have selected and organized. Our desire is to foster among young people a sense of responsibility, autonomy and achievement.
The Center was born in 1986 and our primary objectives remain largely the same to this day – to develop a sense of community among our young people, facilitate the learning of democratic life, encourage autonomy and leadership, better equip them for their life’s journey and develop their capacity to create and maintain interpersonal relationships.
We also aim to assist and motivate our youth members to take charge of their lives by making responsible decisions about their romantic relationships, drug or alcohol use, education and employment, etc. The Lennoxville Youth Center continues to enhance education for our young people by offering information sessions on topics related to adolescence. In addition, our Center is equipped with a multitude of resources for all of the difficulties that young people can face during adolescence. By keeping these teenagers interested and motivated through positive and productive means, we ensure they are not causing trouble and they do not find themselves in the street.
The center makes a considerable effort to reach young people in our community who are often forgotten because they make up a small portion of the population. This is extremely important as adolescence can be a very difficult time to live through and we are proud to be one of the only organizations in the community to respond specifically to their needs.
