The bilingual visitor information counsellor will offer visitor information services to visitors in French and English as required. They will oversee the production of a French version of our local visitor guide and will be able to add this product to their portfolio. They will liaise with our local French Club to offer visitor services at French and Metis events and will develop a special event plan for Canada's 150th Celebrations. They will offer social media outreach to visitors and in French live chat on our website as required. They will record data and statistics on French services offered.

-answer visitor inquiries by mail, phone, and in person

-review publications for upcoming events and news of interest to visitors

-research community information of interest to visitors

-update files and reference materials

-keep brochure racks well-stocked and organized

-order stock when required

-post current information of interest to visitors such as Tourist Alert, road, and weather reports retails sales, cash reconciliation

-behave and dress in a professional manner

-greet all visitors to the Visitor Info Centre in a friendly and professional manner

-answer phone calls on the first ring if possible

-keep Visitor Info Centre grounds tidy, keep interior clean, tidy and organized answering mail, fax and e-mail inquiries

-promote local tourism products, services and events

-plan travel itineraries in response to visitor inquiries

-encourage longer and/or return visits

-using official ministry forms, record data related to each visitor party inquiry

-general office duties; filing, photocopying, computer skills, updating manuals

-updating information manual

Profil du candidat


The ideal candidate will be fluent in French and English and may be seeking to use their skills in a daily setting. In addition to Tourism, they may have other areas of interest including History, The Arts, Customer service or Language Studies. They are computer literate and have had previous experience with basic computer platforms and social media.


*** Admissibility Criteria

This position is partially funded by Young Canada Works in Both Official Languages. To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:


- Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada , (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);

- Be legally entitled to work in Canada;

- Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;

- Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;

- Have no other full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) work assignment;

-Have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment;

-Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment;

-Have a working knowledge of both English and French;

-Be willing to work in another region in Canada.


Travelling expenses will be paid by Young Canada Works. An allocation allowance of an additional 1,35 $ per hour will be given to participants who must travel 125 km or more to the job location.***
