Pending approval of funding, the White Rock Museum & Archives is seeking a Museum Assistant to work in our facility for the busy 2017 summer tourist season.

The White Rock Museum & Archives invites applicants to apply for the temporary position of Museum Assistant. This full-time summer position is funded in part by the Young Canada Works employment initiative. The successful candidate will be assisting in all aspects of the operations of a busy community museum. The position will include involvement with collections inventory and data base work, collections care, collections documentation, assisting with exhibit preparation and execution, archival description research, gallery tours, admissions, visitor surveys, customer assistance, retail work in the museum shop, administrative duties, and planning and implementing special events and programs. The Museum Assistant will work closely with the Executive Director, Collections and Exhibits Curator, Archives Manager, Museum Development Team, Visitor Services Coordinator, Museum Shop staff and volunteers, and the general public.

The successful candidate will possess superior written and oral skills in English, is detail oriented, flexible, comfortable working in a fast-paced multi-faceted organization, has enthusiasm for museums, collections, youth, and working with the general public. They will have the ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have some post secondary education in a related field, such as archeology, history, anthropology, natural history, or museum studies. Previous experience working in a museum environment or in a cultural/tourism situation involving public interaction, artefact handling, database use, or retail experience would be an asset.

Eligible candidates must be a Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada, willing to commit to an assignment lasting 15 weeks, willing to participate in the Young Canada Works program evaluation/assessment, and be between the ages of 16-30 years old.

Wages Offered: $12.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
35 Hours per Regular Work Week (some weekend work possible)
