The Penticton Art Gallery seeks an experienced, innovative, team-oriented, and highly motivated Creative Kids Program Leader. The Creative Kids Program Leader will be responsible for the planning and coordination of the Penticton Art Gallery’s Creative Kids Summer Education Program. The successful candidate will develop and implement an ongoing summer program running out of the gallery during the summer months to serve the community's youth and introduce them to a positive and creative arts experience. The program will introduce youth to art in all its mediums and be geared towards the history of art and coincide with our ongoing exhibitions that will be running over the summer months. The participant will have extensive interaction with the gallery Director/Curator, Gallery Administrator and Curatorial Assistant along with the rest of the gallery staff to develop and promote a consistent, dynamic and educational summer art program.

Our ideal candidates are those with a high academic standing, a keen interest in the arts, and are able to work both independently and with others. Special consideration will be given to those who are currently undertaking, or planning to enroll in an arts or education program. As this program will deal mainly with children and youth the candidate will have to undergo a background check with the R.C.M.P. prior to commencing work. Candidates should have a basic knowledge of computer systems, including Internet and word processing, although these skills can be further developed through the project. Penticton is located in the south central region of British Columbia, in an area known collectively as the Okanagan Valley. With over 2,100 hours of sunshine, and only 15 inches of rain annually, the area has a comfortable climate year round. The population of Penticton was 31, 909 in the 2006 census.
The City is surrounded by two fresh water lakes and gentle rolling mountains. A wide variety of outdoor recreational activities is augmented by amenities such as a newly renovated Community Centre containing two indoor pools, 4 sheets of ice, tennis courts, a curling rink, and a state of the art South Okanagan Events Centre housing the Penticton Vees hockey team. Penticton is home to a number of amenities, including numerous parks and sports fields, a library, museum and public art gallery.
The name Penticton derives from a Salish work that means “a place to stay forever.” The Okanagan people originally inhabited the land. It was in 1866 when the first white settler, Irishman Tom Ellis moved to the area to build a cattle empire and plant fruit orchards. The fruit industry, particularly peaches, followed by tourism and lumber were the core of the town’s economy.
Nowadays, Penticton is still known for its bountiful fruit industry but also a huge boom of vineyards and the winery industry is a major contributor to our tourism industry. The population of Penticton roughly triples during the summer months as it is a great place for everyone from young families, couples, singles, adventure-goers, beach bums, wine drinkers, foodies, and everyone in between.
