Do you love animals? Ever wanted to be immersed in the backrooms of a natural history museum. This 16-week position at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum located on the main campus of UBC will teach you curatorial, database, and photograph skills. Digital images need to be taken, colour balanced, and incorporated into the museum database. Prior to being photographed, the label information (data) of each specimen needs to be reconciled with the database. You will learn how to use the following software: Filemaker Pro and Photoshop. This is a tremendous learning opportunity for someone interested in zoology or informatics. You will also learn how to prepare museum specimens for inclusion in the collection.

Qualifications:
• Undergraduate enrolled in either arts or sciences with an interest in animals
• A person with a curiosity for what happens in the back rooms of natural history museums and a love for old things
• Must have an interest in museums, photography, and databases
• Be familiar with using computers and be a reasonably good typist
• No previous knowledge of databases required
• The YCW candidate must be able to understand and read English but does not need to be an articulate speaker. While the main language of work is English, having French or Spanish would be an asset
