The University of Victoria Legacy Art Galleries is based in downtown Victoria at 630 Yates Street with a second gallery space, the Legacy Maltwood, on campus. We are UVic's art gallery and are free and open to the public Wed to Sat 10 am to 4pm.

As part of the front of house staff team responsible for visitor engagement the Young Canada Works student will be trained by our staff specialist on the Legacy Art Gallery’s visitor engagement program.

1. Visitor engagement such as greeting visitors, assessing their interests or comfort levels, providing them entry points into the exhibition, and talking about the exhibition, reporting interactions and attendance numbers
2. Public Program Development and Delivery: Participate in development and delivery of summer and early fall programs relating to two Indigenous themed exhibitions, Origin Stories and Alert Bay Residential School Children’s Art, June to September 2017. Specific days for special programming include National Aboriginal Day, Integrate Arts Festival, Car Free YYJ, Orange Shirt Day and Culture Days.
3. Exhibition preparation and installation which may also include proofreading and formatting/production of labels and didactic material. Specific exhibitions include: So Long Frank Lloyd Wright; preparation of Alert Bay Residential School Children’s Art exhibition and (subject to funding) Belonging: In Honour of Indigenous Childhoods.
4. Collections care and management including cataloguing, photography, and condition reporting for student to understand holistic workings of gallery operations and connection to overall mandate. Assist with the completion of a campus wide art inventory project.

Qualifications:
Second year or higher in Humanities, Fine Arts, Social Sciences, Museum Studies or related discipline with a special interest and background in Indigenous Education. Advanced computer skills in a Mac environment including experience with word press, Photoshop, InDesign. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to work independently and exercise good judgment. Ability to work as part of a team. Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
