Summer Position

June 19 – August 31, 2017
Salary: $18.09-18.11 per hour

Job Summary:
To plan and coordinate summer camp programs for children 6 to 12 years in a built and natural heritage environment

Duties:
Reporting to the Museum Co-ordinator of Todmorden Mills Heritage Site and the Camp Coordinator, you will assist in the development and delivery of summer camp programs for children 6 to 12 years of age.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include:

• Reports to the Museum Coordinator and Program Officer
• Researching the social and natural history connected with the site;
• Planning and coordinate four summer camp programs that introduce children to the site's history and natural environment
• Delivering program activity instructions to campers who are at various ages and skills
• Conducting hands-on activities based on the program themes
• Organizing, leading and participating in planned activities and mentoring participants
• Interacting with campers' parents and caregivers to provide program information
• Ensuring that equipment and supplies meet Health and Safety Standards
• Assisting in general camp duties
• Outlining the program budget; preparing a manual for the program; and assisting in the promotion of programs to the local community.

Qualifications:
• The successful candidate will have experience working with children, in particular, teaching or leading groups in the 6 to 12 year old children's environment
• Knowledge related to camp programming such as education, history, environmental studies or art programming
• Fluency in English
• Working knowledge of Mircosoft Word and Excel
• Excellent oral communication, interpersonal and presentation skills are required
• Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria of YCW in Heritage Organizations, including having been a full-time student in the preceding semester and intending to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job
• Preference may be given to candidates who are enrolled in or have degrees in education, Canadian history, natural sciences, or visual arts or equivalent
• Candidates must be enthusiastic and flexible
• Ability to foster cooperative working relationships and show judgment and sensitivity in dealing with the public are important

Basic First Aid Certification required.

Experience in museums and visual art disciplines, and knowledge of natural history and the environment and community service are assets.
