Job Posting – Heritage Summer Camp Leader – 2 positions
35 - 40 hours per week @ $13.70 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
These positions require a full commitment for the entire duration of the program (May 25 – September 1, 2017).

As an employee of the Town of Oakville with the Recreation and Culture Department, you will be responsible for adhering to Town Policy and Procedure. Employment is conditional on a valid security check and High-Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification. Only criminal checks that are dated within the 30-day period prior to the start date of employment will be accepted.

The Heritage Summer Camp Leader will work as part of a team delivering hands-on programming to children enrolled in Oakville Museum summer camps. You are the front line leader in championing the Hands-on-History Summer Program.
Reporting to the Museum Programmer/Public Programs, the candidate will assist with coordinating the operations and delivery of the Hands on History Summer Programs. The candidate will oversee the day to day coordination of camp activities, lead groups of children ages 4 to 11 in program activities.

General Responsibilities:
• To assist in the planning for, and deliver, creative theme oriented, heritage based hands-on Museum Summer Camp programs;
• Provide direct care, safety, and supervision of children, as well as the enjoyment of all participants;
• Lead before and after camp activities;
• Maintaining a safe and clean environment for camp participants;
• Day to day co-ordination of camp activities, including preparation, set-up, and clean- up of daily activities.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate:
• is enrolled in a post-secondary program in History, Museum Studies, Education and/or Early Childhood education or a related discipline
• has experience supervising groups of children in a camp and/or educational setting;
• has an ability to work both independently and to be pro-active in a team environment;
• is responsible, hard-working, enthusiastic and dynamic;
• has demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills;
• has strong organizational, planning and leadership skills;
• your experience and knowledge of recreation, education, arts and/or crafts would be an asset;
• a current first aid certification and CPR C and AED is required;
• previous leadership experience would be beneficial;
• Security Clearance and Vulnerable Sector Screening documents will be required at the time of interview;
• Successful candidates will possess or be willing to work towards High- Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification

*In order to be eligible for this position, applicants must also meet Young Canada Works funding eligibility:
• have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year (must also meet age requirements)
• are Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Act (foreign students are not eligible)
• must be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
•be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
• not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW
• must be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory
