Tourism Ambassador– Summer Student (2017)

This position will provide travel, hospitality and accommodation information to tourists, promote tourism, and asses tourist opportunities for local communities. He or she will be based out of the YASTA offices located in the Hebron Municipal building. The tourism ambassador will also travel to events throughout the province where there is an opportunity to promote the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores region’s tourism activities. On selected days, he or she will provide visitor information aboard the Yarmouth to Portland International ferry. Furthermore, the tourism ambassador will work create digital assets for our use. This includes social media posts, photography and basic graphic design.

Objectives for the Tourism Ambassador– Summer Student (2017) position are:

Promote all restaurants, attractions and accommodations found within the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores region
Travel to events throughout the province as a tourism ambassador for Yarmouth and Acadian Shores. Attend local events to provide tourism information to tourists
Promote our tourism assets aboard the Yarmouth To Portland International ferry on select crossings
Update social media sites and stakeholder databases
Update photography database

Specific Duties include:

answer questions from tourists, visitors, local residents and other tourism industry colleagues, in person, over the phone, via email or online
make suggestions on tours, travel routes, accommodation and local attractions
provide literature and information on local places of interest
maintain literature and brochure stocks
sell souvenirs and other merchandise
discuss transport, accommodation and tour availability and cost
assist travel agents and tour operators in preparing itineraries for tourists
undertake general clerical and office duties
maintain statistics on the number of visitors counselled
offer tourism counseling in French and English
take photos of local attraction to add to existing database
update social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube and pinterest.

This position reports to the Tourism Development Officer of the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association, with office space located at the Municipal Office in Hebron.

Requirements
Enrollment in NSCC or University program that is relevant to the position. These include Tourism and Hospitality, Public Relations, Marketing or Business
Experience with the internet (i.e.:Google Maps, Facebook, Youtube, Pinterest, Instagram and other social media)
Ability to write professionally in English and French
Ability to stay organized & manage your time
Ability to research local destinations
A positive attitude
Driver’s license and clean driving record
A willingness to learn and own a project.
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability and confidence to teach

Assets
Experience in tourism industry is an asset but not required. YASTA is willing to train.
Ability to communicate in French Basic graphic design ability an asset

Duration
This is a 10 week term position. Compensation is $12.00 / hour for 35 hours / week.
