POSITION AVAILABLE – Rideau Hall Storytime Coordinator
Term: Seasonal – 16 weeks

Frontier College is a national, non-profit literacy organization which was founded in 1899. We help children, teens, adults and families improve their literacy skills through delivering volunteer-run, community-based programs across Canada in partnership with community organizations.
THIS POSITION IS FUNDED BY YOUNG CANADA WORKS AND SO YOU MUST:
• BE A FULL-TIME STUDENT RETURNING TO SCHOOL IN THE FALL
• HAVE A PERMANENT ADDRESS 125 KM OR MORE FROM OTTAWA
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Create and lead learning activities for children in English and French.
Mobilize and manage volunteers to work at Rideau Hall.
Create a fun environment that promotes reading and literacy to families.
Plan a program launch with Rideau Hall and Frontier College staff members.
Build activities into the program that promote Canada's 150th anniversary of confederation.
Represent Frontier College to employees and visitors of Rideau Hall.
Conduct outreach to community organizations in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.
Select books for use in the program, especially books that have received the Governor General’s Literary Award.
Monitor and document program highlights.
Write a final report.
Provide additional support to the Ottawa Community Coordinator as required.
Bilingualism (French/English) required.
Candidate must be able to work weekends.
Skills in developing creative learning activities suitable for children from ages 1 to 12.
Enjoys working with children and adults of diverse populations.
Good public relations skills with children, parents, volunteers, and officials.
Knowledge of literacy, love of reading and writing.
Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
Skills in supervising and motivating volunteers.
Ability to work as part of a team and without close supervision.
Able to think critically and solve problems.
