The Grimsby Public Art Gallery seeks a well-organized, motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Curatorial Assistant. The Curatorial Assistant, supervised by the Gallery Director, will work with the GPAG Permanent Collection and temporary art exhibitions at the gallery. The primary goal of the position is to research and update information about select works in the collection (the Historic Canadian and Indigenous works) and prepare the information and documentation for inclusion in the newly launched collection digitization project. Tasks will include examining and inventorying artwork; research to develop accurate content for digitization; preparing artwork for exhibition; and preparing art based material for public presentation. Some general gallery duties such as assisting with exhibition installation and developing and distributing promotional materials will also be required. The ideal candidate will have some post-secondary training in visual arts, art history, cultural studies and/or museum studies. S/he will have a good understanding of and the ability to recognize different art media and exhibit meticulous attention to detail in his/her work. Solid computer skills are required and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as the ability to learn other programs quickly, would be helpful.

The Grimsby Public Art Gallery is a small community art gallery serving the Town of Grimsby and the Niagara Region. We provide a well-rounded program of exhibitions, art classes and various other art activities. We show and collect primarily work by Canadian artists and have a special interest in the Book Arts, print-making and works on paper.
