Located in historic Wetaskiwin, and only a 45 minute drive from Edmonton, the Wetaskiwin and District Heritage Museum is offering an exciting and rewarding summer employment opportunity for a University or College student to gain practical experience working in the non-profit, cultural heritage sector.

Job Title: Programming Assistant (1 position)
Job description:
As an integral members of our team, the Programming Assistant will be responsible for providing support for museum programs, events, and exhibits, and given the opportunity to assist with the development, research, and presentation of several projects. The emphasis of this support will be with our 2017 “Year of Agriculture” project, in particular the 2017 temporary exhibit “Seeds of our Heritage”, as well as our Canada 150 celebrations exhibit. The Programming Assistant will also aid in other areas of museum operations including: greeting museum visitors; gift shop sales; opening and closing of the museum on Saturdays; and conducting school and public tours. Further, they will have the opportunity to assist with museum marketing in areas such as: preparing advertising for programs, events, and exhibits; creating and updating museum brochures; publication of our quarterly Museletter; as well as improving our on-line presence through posts on our Website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed.

Necessary Qualifications:
- Full-time University or College student who is currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program.
- While all students are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to those with a field of study in museum, cultural heritage, or art and design studies; education; and / or liberal arts programs such as: History; Anthropology; Archaeology; Native & Aboriginal Studies; Women’s & Gender Studies; Classics; and English.
- At minimum two (2) years of experience in museum or related heritage information fields and/or project management.
- Excellent computer and word processing (Microsoft Office) skills. Experience in Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher will be considered an asset, as will familiarity with Website and social media applications.
- The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the local area, or an earnest desire to learn more.
